South Africa Crowns Its First Miss Teen and Miss Preteen Africa Queens
Johannesburg, October 4th — History was made as South Africa officially crowned its first-ever Miss Teen Africa South Africa, Leyla Shongwe, alongside the inaugural Miss Preteen Africa South Africa, Onalerona Setshogoe.
This milestone marks South Africa’s entry into the Miss Teen Africa Pageant System, one of the continent’s leading youth empowerment platforms celebrating beauty, leadership, and cultural pride. Both winners will proudly represent South Africa at the Miss Teen Africa Grand Finale, taking place in South Africa from 10–14 December 2025.
Founded in 2014, Miss Teen Africa was established with the mission to empower young African women through education, community leadership, and cultural exchange. The platform provides opportunities for teenage girls across the continent to develop confidence, showcase talent, and engage in meaningful advocacy. Since its inception, the pageant has crowned queens from countries including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Uganda, each contributing to initiatives that uplift young people and local communities.
Speaking after the crowning, Ntombi, National Director of Miss Teen Africa South Africa, shared her excitement:
“I’m so happy and proud. This is not only a win for our queens but a proud moment for South Africa. We’re ready to shine at Miss Teen Africa in December.”
With grace and ambition, Leyla Shongwe and Onalerona Setshogoe are set to inspire a new generation of young South Africans—proving that the future of African pageantry is bright, bold, and full of promise.
