Miss Teen Africa UK 2017 Amirah Akpan has been awarded Educational Innovation of the year at this year’s UK Global Youth Awards.

The annual event which aims to celebrate young people in cities around the world presented the Queen at a packed event held at The Jetty Greenwich peninsula.

Speaking shortly to Show Africa after receiving her award, “ I’m so pleased to have been recognised for this amazing project with my MTA team, and I would like to say a big thank you to Miss Teen Africa Foundation for giving me this platform and also to my family for supporting me this far.”

Amirah who officially launches the 1000 books campaign at the Nigeria High Commission early in the year aim to raise awareness about education and literacy in Africa. “I think we should all talk more about girl child education, from statistics there are still millions of young people who are out of school and I hope my campaign will continue to highlight some of this challenges and bring them needed support.
