Miss Teen Africa UK 2017 Meets Former Ghanaian President at Commonwealth Africa Summit
In a powerful moment of youth representation and cultural diplomacy, Miss Teen Africa UK 2017, Amirah Akpan, met with former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama during the Commonwealth Africa Summit 2018 held in London.
Amirah, then just 17 years old, made history as the youngest panellist at the summit, joining a distinguished lineup of leaders, diplomats, and changemakers to discuss Africa’s future in global development. Her presence on the panel highlighted the importance of youth voices in shaping policy and driving innovation across the continent.

“I’m privileged to have sat on the panel,” Amirah shared, reflecting on the experience. “To be among such influential figures and contribute as a young African woman was truly empowering.”
The summit, themed ‘Common Good: Shared Values for Shared Prosperity’, focused on strengthening partnerships between African nations and the Commonwealth, with discussions spanning governance, trade, education, and youth empowerment.
Amirah’s encounter with President Mahama was more than ceremonial—it symbolised a generational bridge between seasoned leadership and emerging voices. Her poise and insight earned admiration from attendees and reinforced the mission of Miss Teen Africa UK: to empower young African women to lead, inspire, and advocate for change.
As the pageant continues to spotlight talent and purpose, Amirah’s role at the summit remains a shining example of how platforms like Miss Teen Africa UK can elevate youth into global conversations.
